Where Are Industrial Machine Radiators Used?

· Safkan Otomotiv

In industrial machines, part of the energy turns into heat, and if that heat is not rejected through the oil, air or coolant, the machine is damaged. This article briefly maps which machine groups use radiators and what each group's cooling need is based on.

Compressors

Air compressors heat both the oil and the air during compression. If the oil overheats, its flow behavior and lubricating properties deteriorate. That is why oil and air coolers are basic parts of the circuit in compressor systems. Safkan's compressor radiators are aluminum Bar Plate oil-air type and cover a range from low-power to high-capacity models.

Forklifts

Forklifts work with frequent stop-and-go, lifting and changes of direction. The radiator that cools the transmission oil has to be both cleanable and durable in dusty, dirty environments such as ports, construction sites and textile plants. For product codes and dimensions, see the forklift radiators page.

Construction machinery and screed machines

Excavators, loaders and road machines work outdoors under high load in dusty, vibrating conditions, and the engine and hydraulic system heat up together. For details, see our construction machinery radiators page and the article on heavy construction machinery cooling solutions.

Machines that pump screed and mortar run on high-pressure hydraulic circuits, so under heavy use they need a radiator that keeps oil heating in check. Compatible brands and product information are on the screed machine radiators page.

Hydraulic power units and general industry

In stationary hydraulic systems such as presses, machine tools, test equipment and supply units, the oil heats up through pump and valve losses. Here, fan-cooled oil coolers make it easier to build a cooling circuit independent of the machine. Safkan's fan-cooled radiators are offered with DC and AC voltage options; the hot oil passes through the coil while the fan blows air across it, and the air does not come into contact with the oil.

The same logic applies in general industry: if a fluid generates heat, a way out for that heat has to be planned. Our article on why oil cooling systems are necessary covers the basic concepts.

Common questions whatever your application

Whatever machine group you are in, the path to the right radiator starts with the same three questions: Which fluid will be cooled (hydraulic oil, transmission oil, compressor oil or engine coolant)? How much heat has to be rejected? In what environment will the radiator work? The answers to these three questions largely determine the type, size and fan selection.

On mobile machines (forklifts, construction machinery), operating conditions vary; dust, vibration and temperature swings stand out. In stationary installations (a compressor room, a hydraulic power unit), continuous operation and the ventilation layout are decisive. The same radiator type is not selected in the same way for both groups.

For a detailed look at the selection steps, see the radiator selection checklist.
